FAQs

General

  • Do you have a catalog with a price list ?
Every order is quoted individually based on what you need. Get in touch and we’ll work it out together.
  • How do I pay ?
All commissioned orders require an advance payment before we begin work. We’ll confirm the details when your order is placed. For purchases at the studio boutique, we accept cash and online payments.
  • Can I customise colours and designs ?
We work within our available glaze palette. We have a wide range of colours to choose from. For designs, you are welcome to choose from our existing range or bring your own idea — we’ll let you know if it’s something we can work with. We do not copy or reproduce other makers’ work. Since every piece is made by hand, no two pieces will ever be exactly the same. That variation is part of what makes each one worth having.
  • Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes. Gift vouchers for workshops and pottery are available and valid for six months from the date of purchase. A lovely way to gift someone an experience they won’t forget or the option of having something handmade by order or to buy from the studio boutique.
  • What is the minimum order quantity ?
We work with a minimum of 12 pieces per order.
  • Is the pottery food safe?
Yes. We work exclusively with food safe clay and glazes. All pieces are oven, microwave, and dishwasher safe — made to be used at the table, not just looked at.
  • Do you deliver on time?
We have a 99% on-time delivery record across both personal and hospitality orders. We take our timelines seriously — when we commit to a date, we work to meet it. In most cases, your order will be ready ahead of schedule.
  • How do you keep us informed during the making process?
We share photographs at various stages of the making as and when relevant — from throwing to glazing to firing. We believe in keeping the process transparent and our clients informed every step of the way. If a piece cracks or doesn’t survive the kiln, you will hear from us directly. No surprises at collection.
  • How is payment structured?
We require 75% of the total order value at confirmation before we begin work. The remaining balance is due on completion.
  • How do we collect the order?
All orders are collected directly from the studio by the client within seven days of completion. We do not deliver or ship — this keeps your pieces safe and ensures everything is checked and accounted for at handover.
  • Do you work with clients outside Sri Lanka?
Yes we do. We have made for properties and clients internationally. Get in touch to discuss your requirements and we will work out the details together.
  • Can I visit the studio?
Yes — all visits are by appointment. We are a working studio and plan our days around what is happening at the wheel and glaze room so a little notice goes a long way.
  • Can I buy pieces directly from the studio?
Yes. The studio boutique carries a wide selection of available pieces that can be purchased on the day. We accept cash and online payments.
  • Where is the studio?
We are located at the Jubilee Post junction, off Kotte Road. You can find us on Google Maps — search Redcocoon Pottery.
  • Is parking available?
Yes, parking is available at the studio.
  • Is the studio wheel chair accessible
Yes. The studio is wheel chair accessible and parking is available inside the premises.

Orders & Shipping

  • How do I place an order ?
Message us on WhatsApp, Instagram, or email with what you have in mind. We’ll come back to you within 24 hours to discuss the details.
  • How long does an order take ?
Most orders are ready within four to six weeks from confirmation. Smaller orders may take less time while larger commissions may take longer — we’ll always give you a clear timeline upfront.

Workshops

  • Do you conduct workshops ?
Yes. We run pottery workshops at our fully equipped studio — open sessions for individuals and small groups, private workshops, and corporate sessions. Half a day, all materials provided, no experience needed. Our workshops can be tailor made to suit birthdays, hen parties, reunions, team building etc. Just come ready to get your hands in clay.
  • What are the time sessions ?
We offer both morning and afternoon sessions. Get in touch to check availability and find a time that works for you.
  • How far in advance do I need to book ?
We recommend booking at least two weeks ahead to secure your preferred date and allow us to order fresh clay for your session.
  • How many people per workshop ?
Workshops are available for groups of two to ten adults.
  • Do I need to bring anything ?
Nothing at all. All tools, materials, and refreshments are provided. Just bring yourself.
  • Is there an age restriction ?
Our workshops are for adults only.
  • How do I pay for a workshop ?
Full payment is required at the time of booking to confirm your session.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
Payments are non-refundable. As a gesture of goodwill, 50% of your prepaid amount can be used as credit at the studio boutique within four weeks of your cancellation.
  • What happens to my pieces after the session?
Once the greenware is bone dry, all pieces are professionally fired and glazed after your session and ready for collection within two weeks. Firing is an unpredictable process and occasionally a piece may not survive the kiln — this is the nature of the craft and something every potter learns to accept.
  • Do you do corporate workshops?
Yes. All corporate workshops are held at our studio — fully equipped and set up to make the session as easy and enjoyable as possible. We work with a maximum of 12 participants per session and are happy to tailor the session around your company or department’s needs — whether that’s team building, confidence building, or simply a creative day out together. If the numbers are more than 12 people, we can divid the session into two. Morning and afternoon . Get in touch to discuss what you have in mind.
  • How do I book for a workshop ?
Drop us a message on WhatsApp or Instagram — your name, the session you’re interested in, and how many are coming. We reply within the day.

Hospitality

  • Do you take orders from hotels and restaurants?
Yes. We work with hotels, cafés, restaurants, villas, bungalows and resorts across Sri Lanka and internationally. Every commission is handled directly by the owner and maker — no middlemen, no catalogue repeats.
  • Do you visit the property before starting a commission?
Yes we do, when it adds value — understanding the menu, the plating style, the kitchen — we are happy to visit. Site visits are arranged at the client’s cost and help ensure the pieces we make are the right fit for the table they are going to.
  • How long does a hospitality commission take?
Most commissions are completed within four to six weeks from order confirmation. We will always give you a clear timeline upfront.
  • Can we reorder if pieces need replacing?
Yes, as long as minimum order quantities are met.

Studio Visits

  • How far in advance do I need to book?
Ideally 24 hours ahead. Get in touch on WhatsApp, Instagram, or email and we will confirm a time that works.
